Routes, Ranked

Pathway Finder

There are more ways into Canada than the one everybody talks about, and the fastest is rarely the one people start with. This ranks the routes actually open to you, with the time and money each costs — and says plainly when one is closed.

This decides whether a category round applies to you, which is usually the difference between a realistic plan and an impossible one.

Routes, Ranked

  • Provincial Nominee Program

    Within Reach

A nomination is worth 600 points on your profile, which takes you to 898 and makes the draw cut-off irrelevant. The difficulty is entirely in obtaining one.

    Time To Residence

    16–32 months

    Approximate Cost

    4k–8k CAD

    What It Requires
    • A stream that matches your occupation, and usually some tie to the province
    • Often a job offer, or study and work history in the province

NextPick two provinces and read their streams properly rather than applying everywhere. The streams differ far more than people expect.

  • Atlantic Immigration Program

    Within Reach

A job offer from a designated employer in one of the four Atlantic provinces, with no points test at all. It asks for something most candidates will not give — a commitment to a small province — and in exchange it ignores your CRS entirely.

    Time To Residence

    14–26 months

    Approximate Cost

    3k–6k CAD

    What It Requires
    • A job offer from a designated Atlantic employer
    • Language at CLB 5 for most roles, which is a low bar
    • A qualifying credential and recent relevant work experience

NextTarget designated employers directly. The employer designation list is public, and applying into it is a different exercise from an ordinary job hunt.

  • Study Permit, Work Permit, Then Residence

    Open To You

The long road, and the one most people take. Two to four years and a real financial hole before it turns around — but it builds Canadian experience, which is the most valuable single thing on a profile.

    Time To Residence

    30–54 months

    Approximate Cost

    38k–70k CAD

    What It Requires
    • Proof of funds of CAD 23,448, plus tuition and return travel
    • A provincial or territorial attestation letter with the application
    • A programme on the eligible field list if it is a college credential — degrees are exempt
    • Graduating, then finding skilled work inside the permit window

NextRun the cost model before anything else. The number at the end of it is the real decision.

  • Express Entry, General Round

    Closed For Now

You are 209 points short of about 507. The general pool is not a realistic target from here, and no amount of profile polishing will close a gap that size on its own.

    Time To Residence

    18–36 months

    Approximate Cost

    3k–5k CAD

    What It Requires
    • Language test and educational credential assessment in hand
    • An eligible skilled occupation with the required experience
    • Settlement funds, unless you already hold Canadian work authorisation

In the way right now: A 209-point shortfall against the general cut-off.

NextWork the highest-value levers from your profile evaluation first.

A written read of the figures above. It works from the calculated numbers only — it cannot look anything up, and it is not a substitute for advice from licensed counsel.

What this tool is, and what it is not

It computes published, public criteria. It tells you what the rules say and how your answers score against them. It does not tell you what to file, how to file it, or how to present your case — and no output from it should be read as doing so.

Under section 91 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, advising or representing someone for a fee on a Canadian immigration application is restricted to authorised representatives. We are not one. Where you need that, we refer you to our partner immigration lawyer, who is licensed to give it, and we take no fee for the referral. Full scope statement.
